How to accept yourself

Every year at the end of December, I sit down and go through my agenda of the last year. I revisit all the events that have taken place, because while they were happening, time seemed to fly by without slowing down. In all fairness, time seems to go by faster and faster these days. Reflecting back on the achievements of a year slows time down again. It is a great technique. Please note that I am not one to boast. The reason I am reflecting is because I need to feel good, but I don't. I don't think that I have achieved much, if anything. Every day I think about where I want to go, instead of accepting that where I am is actually the best place to be!

Why 50/50 is not fair

If you have ever had to negotiate with someone, you have probably experienced the same as I have. We have learned that 50/50 is always a fair deal. I mean, if we do it 50/50 it has to be fair, since we have equally divided whatever it is that needed dividing, right? You've guessed it, the answer is no. It is not always fair to divide things 50/50.

Must-have ingredients for a good partnership

Yesterday I had a meeting with my business partner who just came back from his holiday. And I was about to tell him something that I knew he was not going to like. But he's my partner so it also felt as though I had an obligation to tell him what was on my mind. In the past we've talked about tough personal circumstances and how that influences your work. Sometimes they make you work harder, at other times it has a negative impact on your work and commitment. But we talked about these things nonetheless, and it would seem as though this was just another case. Yet it wasn't.
